The Bench was another play from Workshop’s favourite writer Ian McShane (the Notts group have previously performed his plays United States, Midwich Cuckoos and 15 Yards).

Set in a park, it concerns itself with a bench and all who sit on it! Pretty much a series of sketches, it formed a perfect progression from the duologue evening performed by this group earlier in the year. Add to this the simplest of sets – a park bench on a patch of grass – and it was an obvious choice for this group, exploiting their comic talents and characterisation skills with nearly 100 characters!

After the Nottingham group reached the National Theatre last year with Spidermen, it was time for another shot. Only this time all three groups put on a play.
