Casting November 2011 Update

DIDDY MOVIES (CBBC) Phoebe Brown gets two separate gigs and a variety of zany parts in this Dick and Dom spin-off directed and written by Julian Kemp.

THE FUSE (BBC) Oliver Woollford secures the part of Luke, playing Christopher Ecclestone’s son in this new drama shooting from Oct to Jan.

TRACEY BEAKER RETURNS (CBBC) Kia Pegg lands the part of Jody.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS (BBC) Oscar Kennedy plays Young Pip in this Christmas special.

UFO (Hawthorn Prods) Amelia Linney is chosen for this feature starring Jean Claude Van Damme.

VERA (ITV) James Burrows plays a gangster’s driver.

SKINS (E4) James Burrows also lands the part of Jake – a consolation prize for just losing a lead part. He got to film in Morrocco, however! Landing the lead role of Alex is ex Leeds Workshopper Sam Jackson. We also had a group of lads – Tom Cowling, Joe Malone, Luke Williams, Aaron Lodge and Tom Thompson – take part in a big choreographed scrap after impressing the fight director with their skills!

WEETABIX (BBH) Dylan Goodall is featured as the son of the family.

HUMAN BEINGS (Blind Eye Films) Harriet Cains and Vahid Gold take the lead roles of Jamie and Aaron. Twenty-three Over 16s were used as extras

EGGBOX (Hat Trick – pilot for BBC) Lauren Carse took the part of Rhia, Chris Howitt was George and ex member Perry Fitzpatrick took the part of Jimmy. Unfortunately the pilot was not commissioned.

SKY VIEW OF GREAT BRITAIN (Sky TV) Julian Kemp recruits another young Workshopper – Lara Thorpe – for a sequence at Stonehenge

BIRDSONG (Working Title) Jamie Selfridge fkies to Budapest to play the postboy.

GP TRAINING DVD (QMC) Paige Harris, Morgana Henry, Sofia Hardiker, Merle Harrison, Luke Williams and ex member Gail Race take part in this role play for doctors.

THE LAUNDRETTE (Spinning Clock) New boys Josh Glenister and Jack Marriott take part.

JUST HENRY (ITV) Ex Leeds member Charlie Clark is put up for and wins the part of Grace. Charlie also landed an RTS Yorkshire award – Most Promising Newcomer – for her role in South Riding.

COMMUNITY SERVICE VOLUNTEERS DVD (Mark Bushnell)- Rielly Newbold, Frankie Lamb and ex member Ladene Hall provide family voice overs.

TRUE LOVE (BBC) Dom Savage directs Vahid Gold playing Chris, a class bully.

SHERLOCK (Hartswood/BBC) Vahid also plays a young officer in this drama.

THE WORM COLLECTOR (Roundabout T.I.E. /Nottingham Playhouse) Ian Horgan tours Notts schools in this one man show.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK (Hammer Films)
Raigan Stephenson and William Tobin both have parts in this spooky film alongside

HORRID HENRY (Henry Productions)
Kia Pegg is Vicious Vicky in this feature film.

SHAMELESS (C4)
Ros Hanson plays a prostitute

DOCTORS
Morgana Henry plays Rosie Cleverley, a young prostitute.

ROBINSONS AD
After a postponement due to snow, this Shane Meadows-directed ad features Harvey Scrimshaw, Akhil Singh and Eve Gordon with support from twelve other Workshoppers.

CASUALTY
Michaela Megran Handley takes the featured part of a young patient with learning difficulties.

ROUGH SKIN (COMING UP series for Channel Four)
Sees Vicky McClure cast as the lead with old boy Marc Jordan returning to acting as her boyfriend and 5 year old Anna Clark in her first part.

WILSON STREET (Twist and Shout)
Has Monique Mundle and Jack Curtis returning to film another scene and Harriet Cains and Aneesa Siddique landing their first parts in this corporate video.

THE IRON LADY
Eliot Brown Walters plays a young lad in this feature starring Meryl Streep.

ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR (Donkey Stone Films)
Eliot also is to play Ryan in this info dvd about repossession.

ENGAGING YOUNG OFFENDERS (Edcoms)
Michaela Spencer lands her first role as Aleesha. Eliot and Morgana Henry support.

MANSFIELD DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE
Tom Thompson, Paige Harris, Holly Twells, Aaron Lodge, Michaela Megran Handley, Alex Wilson, Carter Pateman all feature in this project.

DIARY OF A THAGEE
Annabel Jarvis plays a young girl/goddess in this DV Short.

TOAST(BBC)
Oscar Kennedy plays the young Nigel Slater in this adaptation of the chef’s autobiography. His stepmum is played by Helena Bonham Carter. Workshoppers Rielly Newbold and Kia Pegg feature in smaller parts. Some excellent feedback on Oscar’s professionalism and great performance!

TRACY BEAKER RETURNS (BBC)
Timi Lamikanra plays an African refugee.

COMPULSION (THIRD FILMS)
Dan Hall lands his first lead role in this short about imagined revenge and is supported by Kate Wooler.

HALF TERM (C4)
Part of the Coming Up series for Channel 4 features James Burrows and Terry Haywood as a couple of stoners who suspect Terry’s brother as a terrorist.

INBRED (New Flesh Films)
James Burrows and Terry Haywood team up again in this comedy horror feature.

PAPA (DV Shorts/Spool Films)
Lauren Carse has her first lead role in a semi-autobiographical piece from ex-member Carolina Giametta, with support from Perry Fitzpatrck, Chanel Cresswell, Claire Lees and Phoebe Brown.

JAM TODAY (Mad Cow Films)
Award-winning director of Soft (Simon Ellis) chose Oliver Woolford as the young lead in his new short set on the Norfolk Broads.

BIATCH (DV Shorts)
Director Deborah Haywood (Sis, Lady Maragret) recruited Nimesh Jani as the unsuitable boyfriend in her new short.

PORK (Strike Films)
Deon Williams and Andre Squire are father and son in this short film.

NSPCC
Summaya Mughal played a young musician in this training video.

THE PURSUIT (BBC RADIO)
Rielly Newbold plays Thomas in this radio drama.

2010 Casting Update

This is England (Channel 4)
The four part television series has current member, 11 year old Adam Hunt landing a part, with Danielle Watson, Chanel Cresswell, Ros Hanson and ex members Michael Socha, Perry Fitzpatrick, Vicky McClure and Andrew Shim as regulars.

COI Violence against Women
After the television campaign featured new member Kieron Curtis, Nimesh Jani was used for the radio spinoff and new members Gemma Hardiker and Tom Thompson were used in the interactive internet campaign.

The Runaway (Company Pictures for Sky TV)
Jack O’Connell flies out to South Africa to film this six part drama

Sleepyhead (Sky TV)
Aisling Loftus continues to land impressive roles with this latest starring David Morrissey.

Home Alone (Broadway Films)
Mitchel Chappell and Yousef Grierson play brothers in a local schools’ film initiative.

DWP promo (Atomic Media)
Adham Nazir appears in this promo.

Aldi ad (Y and R)
William Tobin was chosen from six Workshoppers who shot a pilot ad to feature in the main advert.

Junkhearts (Coded Pictures)
After a two year gap, this film with Timothy Spall is green lit and original favourite, Candese High, is offered the lead part.

Mission 2110 (BBC)
Paice Lees did very well in the first series, Max Jones and Isaac Verma complete a number of episodes, filming in a container ship in Glasgow.

The Great Ghost Rescue (Good Films UK)
Georgia Groome lands a lead role in this feature filming in Budapest.

Casting Update

Roboidz (BBC)
Paice, Max, Emma, Isaac, Jade were all shortlisted for this game show and attended a weekend retreat. If they are successful it’ll be three weeks away in Glasgow.

Oranges and Sunshine (Sixteen Films)
New member eight year old Harvey Scrimshaw lands his first big part in this feature directed by Jim Loach. He gets three weeks away in Australia. Playing his sister is ex Workshopper Molly Windsor. Aisling Loftus also landed a key part in the opening scene of the film.

Doctors (BBC)
Rhiannon Lloyd-Davies is to play Candy, a good guest role. Eliot-Otis Brown Walters gets the meaty role of Kevin.

Elevator Gods (Happyour Films)
Mannie Gregg and Oscar Kennedy get small parts in this feature.

The Visitor (Shudderfilms)
Has cast brothers Max and Bill Jones as brothers in this ghost story short.

Trust Me (Fourmost Films)
Produced and written by ex Workshopper Tim Smith, this community film has a number of Workshop kids in key roles – Terry Haywood, Keiran Hardcastle, Paige Harris, Lauren Carse, Narisha Lawson and Holly Twells.

Aldi ad (Tomboy Films)
Kia Pegg, Akil Singh, William Tobin, Shayna McPherson, and Harvey Scrimshaw all were involved in a test advert.

Five Daughters (BBC)
Aisling Loftus secures a lead role in a big drama as Gemma Adams, a girl recovering from addiction.

Microsoft game – Milo – Project Natal
Louis Greatorex continues to go out to LA for mo cap work.

Nottingham Contemporary
A number of Over 16s have been involved in promotional activities for this new art gallery.

Mission 2110 (BBC)
Paice Lees, Max Jones, Isaac Verma were all selected for this game show. Emma Rosenberg is to take part in the title shoot and is first reserve for the programme.

The Trigger (Wellington Films)
Timi Lamikanra and Dan Morpeth win lead roles in this short.

The Wizard and the Werewolf (Sirus Films)
Rielly Newbold and Birmingham’s Kia Pegg play brother and sister.

Half Term Report (Channel 4)
Terry Haywood again lands an Asian role(!) as the lead in this drama about a suspected suicide bomber with Eliot Brown Walters as his mate and ex members Faraz Ayub and Rahal Ghazni also securing key roles.

COI Spin the Bottle
An info ad on teenage drinking featured Jade Fisher, Timi Lamikanra, Joe Hamilton, Kate Wooler, Isaac Verma.

COI Violence Against Woman campaign
Kieron Curtis wins his first role.

COI Act on CO2 – Georgia Cross revisits the ad in radio form.
A Day in the Death of Joe Egg (Nottingham Playhouse) Finn Atkins takes on the challenging role of Joe.

East Mids promo video (Donkey Stone Films)
Narisha Lawson, Jess Norris, Ben Welch, Vahid Gold took part.

National Youth Agency
A photoshoot for their website and publicity involved sixteen Over 16s.

The Sarah Jane Adventures (CBBC)
Anjli Mohindra returns for another series.

Fresh (BBC)
Ros Hanson takes part of Alison.

Birdsong
Trevor Nunn is workshopping this play with Georgia Groome playing a couple of parts.

2009 Casting Update

Here are this years highlights of productions that have utilized Workshop talent.

Untitled Robin Hood Movie
Four Workshoppers have now completed the shoot which is being directed by Ridley Scott.

The True Meaning of Love
Georgia Groome stars in this film alongside a huge list of familiar past and present workshop faces. The film was written and directed by ex member Kieran Hardcastle and produced by Jack Curtis (also an ex Workshop member).

Curiosity
A short film written by ex member Jack Curtis. Past and present workshop faces in this one include Aaron Smith, Lauren Carse and Kiran Landa.

The Legend of Dick and Dom
This program features Birmingham’s Kia Pegg in a key role. Louis Greatorex also had a featured role as a mini Dick!

Microsoft
Louis Greatorex has also been to LA to complete the next stage of his motion capture work.

Butterfly
A DV short had Chanel Cresswell in the lead role with support from Eliot-Otis Brown Walters and Lauren Carse.

Wish 143
Chanel also appeared in this short with Kieran Hardcastle.

The Fattest Man in Britain
Aisling Loftus took a lead role alongside Timothy Spall. She also had the co-lead with Jack O’Connell in Dive with Chanel Cresswell, Mike Socha and Terry Haywood. (Aisling and Michael appeared on the front cover of Screen International as UK Stars of Tomorrow)

Michael Socha is currently working on this feature film.

Misfits
Lauren Socha is playing an uber chav in this asbocom.

Ten Tigers
Another local DV short featured Joe Sentence and Molly May Gardiner with support from 8 other Workshoppers

COI Anti Smoking Campaign
Three Workshoppers have been used in a variety of different media – posters, radio and tv for this campaign.

Shot
Chloe Richardson landed her first key role in this locally shot feature.

The Sarah Jane Adventures
Anjli Mohindra has completed her second series as Rani Chandra and is now rehearsing for East is East at Birm Rep.

Skins
Jack O’Connell dominates the new series and is half way through the shoot. He also worked alongside Michael Caine in Harry Brown and has had a part in Wuthering Heights.

Wasteland
Sophie Ellerby took a lead role in the touring production of this new play and was spotted by Giles Croft, Nottingham Playhouse director, and cast her as the maid in Blithe Spirit.

Time Larks
A no-budget short film featured three Workshoppers in lead roles.

The Perfect Burger
Paul Syrstad took part in this British Youth Film Academy project

Trolley
Tom Cowling lands a part in this short

In the Meadow
New girl Nadia Bouchlaghem worked alongside ex member Jessica Radcliffe in this DV short.
